8 crystals that will heal your life

After my hypnosis session, where I looked into my past lives and my reasons for existing right here and now, I realized one of the things my soul was craving was a reconnection to peace, to my spiritual side.

I remember as a teenager being obsessed with Wicca and paganism. I think my curiosity stemmed from growing up Buddhist, but being educated in a very strict Catholic system.

Some part of me wanted — needed — to explore outside the four walls of the chapel we were always sitting in, praying to a God I wasn’t sure I believed in.

My collection of crystals. (Clockwise: clear quartz, blue calcite, two stone eggs given to me by a Moroccan mountain Berber man, green jade, rose quartz, flourite, smoky quartz, black tourmaline, amethyst.)

Now, I understand that “God” isn’t the “incorrect” manifestation of one religion’s view and belief over another. I believe that God can be whomever you want him/her/it/them to be. And that’s pretty cool. Plus, it takes some of the stress off in the whole, “are my beliefs right or wrong?” debate.

As part of my journey to reconnect to my highest self, I decided to reinvest in crystals. They’re super trendy now, yes, but I’ve always had an affinity for rose quartz and jade.

I’ve been drawn to those two stones ever since I was a child. I wear a jade bracelet every day, as do many Chinese people, and I’ve been collecting rose quartz for years.

I was telling my colleague, Elysia, the one who told me about the hypnosis in the first place, that I wanted to have more crystals and, of course, she said: “I know just the place to take you!”

She brought me to a shop called Pierres d’Ailleurs (4377 rue Saint-Denis, Montreal, Que.). We must have spent at least an hour browsing all the different types of crystals and stones.

I already knew which crystals I was looking for, having done quite a bit of research over the years (thanks teenage me!)

How do you pick the right crystal? I always choose the one that I feel drawn to, that makes me feel calm when I hold it.

Here are eight crystals I believe have the power to heal your life:

Clear Quartz

Clear quartz is known as the stone of power. This crystal will give you clarity on thoughts and decisions, while amplifying any good energy you’re building in your mind-body through intention.

It is one of the most popular and powerful healing stones, believed to protect against negativity to allow you to connect to your highest self. Clear quartz is often used to activate, clear and align the chakras.

Rose Quartz

Rose quartz is the crystal of love, kindness and compassion. It represents warmth, gentleness, acceptance, confidence and personal worth.

It opens the heart chakra by healing, encouraging forgiveness and releasing past issues. Rose quartz emanates unconditional love by nurturing and attracting positive vibes into our lives.

Amethyst is one of the master crystals when it comes to  spirituality. It offers powerful protection, warding off negative energy or unwelcome psychic approaches.

Amethyst is often used to relieve physical, emotional and psychological pain or stress as it brings peace and calm. Use this stone during meditation to encourage personal growth and spiritual expansion.

Jade, and in particular green jade, has, for centuries, been considered one of the most valuable and precious materials in Chinese culture. This is because it is associated to good fortune, vitality, health and healing.

It promotes happiness and harmony in the heart chakra, while encouraging abundance and divine energy. Jade facilitates access to the spiritual world, which is why it is commonly carved into talismans or statues.

Flourite, known as the genius stone, helps with clarification and decision-making. It is also good for anything that has to do with the mind, including thinking, focus and concentration.

It vibrates at a calm, stable frequency, which means it brings order and balance to chaotic or scattered situations. It expands consciousness and advances the mind to its highest, most creative, spiritual and psychic level of awareness.

Black Tourmaline

Black tourmaline can polarize energy and electricity within itself to realign negative experiences back to a neutral place. It is a powerful stone for protection and is a strong, spiritual grounding stone.

It encourages optimism, good luck and happiness. Black tourmaline offers healing and positivity.

Smoky Quartz

Smoky quartz detoxes the energy around you. It protect and grounds you, while blocking any negativity. It is associated to the root chakra and is a powerful stone used in physical healing.

Since it is a quartz crystal, it amplifies the good energy around it, so placing it near other stones will only encourage those good vibes.

Blue Calcite

Blue calcite brings calm and peace to a space. It balances the body’s energy and is associated to the throat chakra and the third eye chakra.

It is often used during meditation because it soothes nerves and anxieties. It facilitates healing by clearing negativity in favour of rest and relaxation. Blue calcite aids memory and learning, while activating intuition and insight.

Do you have any crystals? Or do you have any plans to add some to your life? I find just being near them is extremely calming.
