My favourite meditation podcasts

This year, I made the intention to meditate every day, twice a day. I tried the traditional sitting in lotus pose in strict silence for a little while, but I realized it just wasn’t doing it for me. That masculine idea of meditation doesn’t flow well in my body.

So, I tried lying down. That helped. And then I started listening to mindful meditation podcasts. That’s when I really started to feel a shift. Maybe because I wasn’t so struck by obligatory silence.

There’s such a big change that happens in the body and mind when you take a few minutes to just breathe. You feel yourself relax: your muscles melt away from the bones, that tension behind your eyes and between your eyebrows releases, your jaw loses its rigidity.

I’ve always loved podcasts, and when I start listening to one, I have to listen to every single episode. My favourite podcast right now is Highest Self by Sahara Rose. It’s not a meditation podcast, but I highly recommend it.

If you’re looking to meditate, or have been trying for a while and just don’t think you’re doing it “right” (side note: there is no right or wrong way to meditate), maybe shake up the way you’re doing it.

I have friends who use cooking or even dancing as part of their practice. I first started meditating sitting by the ocean, watching the waves go by and seeing the salt spray up in the air. I live in Montreal now, so that’s not really a possibility.

In its essence, the practice of meditation isn’t about sitting still. It’s about being present, aware and having a clear, emotionally calm state of mind.
